Fashion Trends: Spring/Summer 2024
The month of Carnival (it’s part of my heritage from Cologne in Germany) and Valentine’s Day! Right after we could see the green grass again we just got a surprising big load of snow again. To be honest with you, I’m not a huge fan of winter. I like it around the Holidays but I don’t need it before or after. I can’t wait for May, when flowers start to bloom, trees have leaves again and temperatures are warm enough to spend more time outside. My favorite seasons are Spring and Summer, I only like winter weather around the Holidays, but that's about it. Maybe that's because my birthday is in August... :)
And this brings me to my topic for this month, my personal color & styles’ trend report for Spring/Summer 2024. You never have to go all out on trends but it's always helpful to know what's trending for the next season as this also helps with what makes sense to add from upcoming winter sales. As this topic can be pretty overwhelming to the normal consumer who is not part of the fashion and style world like me, I wanted to break it down to those pieces which are the most wearable. Light Blue
This is a very peaceful and calming color and can either be worn in a monochrome look (pairing different shades of light blue) or combined with other light colors like pastels, white, light grey, creams, metallics or whites. If you want to go a little bit more out there, try pairing light blue with violet purple. The fascinating contrast between the intensity of violet purple and the tranquility of light blue creates a delightful harmony. Violet purple brings an energetic zest, balancing the cool, serene attributes of light blue, evoking feelings of both excitement and calm. If you want more contrast, try navy, brown or charcoal.
Ladylike
Think of shorter Chanel inspired tweed jackets (they call it cardiget now :) - a hybrid of jacket and cardigan) instead of the typical blazer and elegant silhouettes.
White Dresses
Will you say yes to the white dress? The white dress, in various levels of transparency, is a key Spring/Summer 2024 fashion trend. Pick a shade of white that flatters your skin tone/color personality - a creamy white for warm skin tones and stark white for cool skin tones. Also the right fabric is key for a beautiful look, silk for example shows every lump and bump what you might not want.
High-Rise Trousers
Pick a rise that ends at your natural waist line and this is different for all of us. We are not built the same and for some women the natural waist sits lower than others. Every horizontal line (hemlines, waistbands, seams...) you put on your body draws attention to the eye and has a widening effect. You always want this effect on the smallest part of your body. This cut of trousers also elongates the legs, in case you have a short torso, this is not a very flattering cut for you.
Smell The Roses
Romance is huge in 2024 fashion! You'll see roses everywhere, printed, embellished, three-dimensional or petal shaped silhouettes.
Polo Club
Polo shirts have never been out of style, but will be seen a lot more this spring/summer season. This applies more to you if you are a fan of the preppy look and your style personality is on the classic side. If you are not this type of style personality you have to pair the polo shirt with unexpected pieces, like distressed jeans, metallics or a floral print maxi skirt for example.
Metallics
Metallics are everywhere, if it's sequins, lamé or metallic treatments. I'm a total metallic girl, I love everything that sparkles but that's my romantic style personality. If you are a natural or classic style personality for example, you will definitely never be a fan.
90's Redux
Bold colors and ballsy logos are on the way out. Understated branding and discret chic are back. Opt for grey tailoring, camel pencil skirts, white shirts and boyfriend style jeans. Leopard print, fuzzy accents, and minimalist-meets-maximalist touches will be the rage.
Feathery Touches
Nineties nostalgia. Most of the pieces that were seen on the runways are a bit much, but you can add feathers with your accessories, think handbags, shoes or jewelry or opting for a garment with a little bit of feather trim like the Cinq A Sept blazer for example, which got feather trim on the hem of the sleeves.
Siren Red
Go bold and wear head-to-toe (very common for is a dramatic style personality), or just as a surprising flash of brightness with accessories like a belt, bag or shoes.
All these 10 trends can be incorporated in your every day dressing, no matter if it's for work or leisure. The key to having a functional and versatile wardrobe is to have all the basics in place and ideally never go shopping without intention. Go through your closet and put outfits together and you will find out what's missing. Have your shopping list handy and as a result you can create more outfits with your existing pieces.
