Fall/Winter 2024-2025 Fashion Trends
September means so many things, almost the end of summer, back-to-school schedules for all the moms and asking yourself what to wear in the fall winter, trends to incorporate and trends to ditch… Well I can’t personally help you with those first two topics but I can definitely help with the last!
For the Fall/Winter 2024-2025 fashion season, a mix of comfort, elegance, and bold statements dominate the trends. Here are my 13 favorite trends out of MANY out there currently.
1. Earth Tones and Oversized Silhouettes: Both men's and women's fashion see a return to earth tones, with oversized coats, knitwear, and wide-leg pants leading the way. These colors and relaxed fits reflect a blend of practicality and style, ideal for layering during the colder months. Earth tones count as neutrals, they are easy to pair and perfect to create a laid back but elegant vibe.
2. Classic Black and White: One of my all time favorites (in fashion and interior design)! This timeless combination remains strong, with designers like Carolina Herrera and Versace using it to add a chic, minimalist touch to their collections. In case you like color and just black and white is too plain for you, no worries! You can always add a color pop to a black and white style. Think of a red belt or shoes for example or if you are more experimental add a print which has one or two colors in common with the rest of the look. I can totally see a leopard print shoe or bag or other type of accessory with a black and white outfit as well. It all depends on your style- personality.
3. Tailored Elegance: Despite the prevalence of oversized pieces, there's also a resurgence of more fitted, tailored garments. Slim cigarette pants and nipped-in blazers create sharp, sophisticated silhouettes, balancing the season's focus on comfort with a touch of structure.
4. Swaddling and Cozy Layers: Known as "swaddle season," this trend emphasizes ultra-cozy, wrapped-up looks. You’ll see oversized scarves, ponchos, and capes in luxurious fabrics from designers like Bottega Veneta and Proenza Schouler. This layering trend is perfect for those looking to bundle up stylishly during winter.
5. Accessory Extravaganza: Accessories are bold and statement-making this season. Over-the-knee boots, slouchy bags, and elaborate gloves are key pieces that add flair to any outfit. These elements allow for personalization and a touch of drama in your winter wardrobe.
6. Animal Print Deluxe: Animal print makes its return to the fashion scene, another way to express your style personality. A warm toned leopard print is beautiful on any warm color type, like spring, autumn or a mix out of the two, whereas the cooler toned zebra print is absolutely stunning on cool toned color types, like winters, summers, a mix between summer and winter, but especially on a true winter.
7. Dressing to Impress (Yourself): Sartorial formality isn’t really a thing anymore, unless you happen to be a celebrity on the red carpet or a member of the royal family. Occasion dressing is less about impressing others and more about feeling good. This idea manifested in some seriously beautiful ways on the fall runways this season, with designers ditching traditional gowns, cocktail dresses, and suiting for more mashed-up looks that prioritized self-confidence over prescriptive dress codes.
8. Bags in Split Pea Green: Red continues to dominate the runway as the accent color of choice, but a new shade of green isn’t far behind. Super fun if you want to add some color into the more colorless months of the year
9. Red all Over: I think it’s safe to say red will be a big one for fall and winter. And no worries, there is a shade of red for every color type. If you think of the color red, you probably immediately associate it with warm, but that is just one option. There are cool reds as well as more neutral reds as well.
10. Leather Sets: If you like leather, you will be in fashion heaven this fall/winter! We are seeing leather blazers with matching maxi skirts for example. To me a leather blazer is one of my wardrobe staples, just like it’s ‘fabric sister’ it’s easily dressed up or down.
11. Check it Out: For this season's collections, designers overwhelmingly opted to work plaid into their pieces, seamlessly weaving the quintessential fall pattern into designs. The print acted primarily as the center of each design
12. Furlicious: Fur has always been a part of fall fashion, but we are in the age of a resurgence. Brands have identified a distinct Fall/Winter 2024 fashion trend set to dominate this season.
13. Denim Mania: I personally LOVE denim, I even wear it head to toe a la Canadian Tuxedo. There are styles and cuts around for every body shape, style personality and budget. Denim is easy to dress up or down and also easy to take care off. Also, skinny jeans are back, which is perfect for boot season.
