Transitioning Summer Sale Finds into Fall/Winter Fashion Pieces
Incorporating summer sale finds into your fall/winter wardrobe can be both practical and stylish.
Here are my 10 tips to get the most out of your summer sale finds:
1. Layering:
Use summer tops and dresses as base layers. Pair a summer dress with tights, boots, and a cozy cardigan, blazer or a leather jacket. Layer tank tops or camisoles under sweaters or blazers.
2. Accessorize:
Add fall and winter accessories to summer pieces. Scarves, hats, gloves and statement jewelry can transform a summer outfit into a seasonally appropriate look.
3. Texture Mix:
This instantly creates more interest in your outfit. Pair lighter fabrics with heavier ones. For example, pair a light summer blouse with a chunky knit sweater, a leather jacket, a wool blazer or tweed pants.
4. Neutral Colors:
Neutral colors always transition well between seasons. Whites, beiges, and pastels can be paired with deeper hues like navy, burgundy, chocolate brown and forest green. To create harmony when mixing colors, make sure to stay in the same value and intensity.
5. Footwear:
Swap your summer sandals and mules for ankle boots, knee-high boots, over-the-knee boots, pumps, ballet flats, loafers, slingback pumps, pumps or sneakers to make the outfit more suitable for colder temperatures.
6. Outerwear:
Use your summer sale finds as layering pieces under blazers, leather jackets or cardigans. A summer dress can look great under a leather jacket paired with boots and a hat for example. The style of the boots and hat totally depends on the style of the dress and your style personality.
7. Tights and Leggings:
These are great to wear under dresses or skirts to add warmth but also give the outfit a cool and fresh look. Tight colors and patterns are another way to add personality to your look.
8. Versatile Pieces:
Invest in versatile items like denim jackets, blazers, lightweight sweaters, blouses and button down shirts, jeans, and long sleeve shirts that can easily be integrated in any season.
9. Adjust Fabrics:
To me linen is a typical warm weather fabric and isn’t really suitable for fall or winter.
10. Pick Colors that Complement your Skin Tone:
Just because of fall and winter you don’t have to switch into dark colors. The winter months are already dark enough, why not brighten them up with some lighter colors. They can always be paired with darker colors or worn in a monochromatic way for a chic and feminine look.
